  • It could have been worse

When bad things happen, do you panic? Do you fret? Well its okay to do all that but do it with the mindset that it could have been worse.

Jamie’s story is one that best defines this statement. So heartbreaking yet inspiring. Follow me as I take you through this brave man’s story.

    It could have been worse

When the news was broken to Jamie that he had cancer. He smiled, nodding as he listened to the doctors. Feeling sympathetic, the doctors had sad eyes as they wondered if Jamie was braced for what a life of battling cancer meant.

Shortly afterwards they watched as Jamie was instantly distracted as he began chatting with his friends and laughing in soft giggles. They shook their heads in disbelief and left quietly to prep him for more testing and treatments.

One week later, Jamie opened his eyes to a room filled with doctors and residents looking at him with concern.
“Hi Jamie, how do you feel?”

“Drowsy.” He answered rubbing his face.

“Jamie your surgery went well, we took away the cancer tissue but after running some post surgery test, we found out that your cancer is spreading, and fast. I’m so sorry.” The doctor informed him.

“Its alright.” He said smiling at the doctor and laid back on the bed.

“What?” The doctor looked at him puzzled while the other doctors stared at each other “Did you just hear what I said?” He asked.

“Yes I did,” Jamie replied warmly. “You just told me that I probably have a few weeks left to live if not one.” He grinned at the doctor who couldn’t help but marvel at what he just said.

“Jesus! How do you do it?” He asked perplexed.

“Nothing. I just know that it could have been worse. For all I know, what if the result showed that I only had this night? What then? But now I’ve got a week or more to see this beautiful world and all that is in it. I can’t change what you just said. It is what it is.” He  laughed at the doctor whose mouth was left wide open.

“Wow. I don’t know what to say Jamie. I just know that I could never be you. You’re great,” He rose to his feet, “don’t stress yourself. The nurse would get you your meds. Good bye Jamie.”

    “Goodbye Doctor.”

My reaction is that of the doctor whenever I see people stay indifferent through their most painful and unbearable experience. I get pumped and energized to live fully. Yet, I also know that there are people who would never be great like Jamie. They would even become the worst version of themselves when faced with a unpleasant circumstances. They would become nasty and difficult towards themselves and those around them.

If you’re thinking I would say some cliche words like some motivational speakers and tell you not to panic or get scared or cry or act out your emotions then, you’re wrong. Let it all out and express your pain when faced with bad circumstances but please and please, don’t be a bitch.

    Don’t be a bitch.

When you become a bitch you make it unbearable for the people around you to be hopeful. You make it uneasy to be loved and taken care of. Get it into your head that it could have been worse.

You’re staying with an uncle that treats you bad because you can’t afford a rent right now, isn’t as bad as you think. It could have been worse in the sense that, you could be lying on the streets without shelter. Get a grip on yourself and be less angry.

You are walking on the road side and some hoodlum snatches your bag and one year later, you’re still lamenting. Are you high? *laughs* You should thank God they only stole your bag. What if a car had run into you and injured you severely? For all we know it could have been worse.

Some people smile on deadly conditions, its not because they are in denial, it’s just that they’ve accepted things as it is in that moment because they know that it could have been worse. Things would have been much worse than it were.

The question is; would you smile through it or be a bitch through it?

Thank you for reading through. I’d be waiting for you on the comment. Do well to leave me your honest feedback, thoughts and opinions.

  • The best plot twist of all time; life.

Okay guys I’m back again after drinking my caprisonne

Remember that your favorite TV series and movie?

The one that kept you awake all night. The one that ruined your perfectly planned out schedule. The one that soaked your pillow with tears. The one that left you pumped to face the giant of the day. The one that brought out the hopeless romantic in you.

How did you feel about the plot twist in that movie/show? Because I’m sure 90% of those shows and movies had a plot twist that shook your nerves and left your brain spinning or even made you angry.

Let’s look at Game of thrones.

Game of thrones is still the best series the universe has ever produced. An Epic show that this world would never recover from, even generations to come.
Yet having one of the greatest plot twist in the history of TV.

To some it left them disappointed, to people like me, it left us ecstatic. Some wailed and fainted. People like me were left satisfied and calm.

Why? You may ask. Well, I’m coming to that…

Let’s also look at The Prodigal Son.

Personally, the prodigal son is the best modern crime investigative show I’ve ever seen since the birth of the likes of NCIS, Nikita etc. Like the name says, its a story of the complicated relationship between a father and the son. And how the sins of a father can affect the children.
Yet this show came with a deep plot twist in its first season that left everyone dumbfounded.

To some it left them eager, since there is more seasons to come. To others it was shocking because they never expected something like that to happen.

Now you may still ask Why?

Because nothing in life comes without a plot twist. Absolutely nothing plays out exactly the way you planned it to be or exactly the way you desired it to be.

    And the reason why some get disappointed and others get excited is because;

    1. Those who get disappointed are those who put all their expectation in their plan. Those who expect life to move on like its been controlled by a remote control. They drown in the thought that everything would be perfect and when it doesn’t end up that way, they end up destroying their life because they can’t handle the result of the plot twist.
    2. Those who get excited are those who have realized that nothing in life is mushy mushy. Not everything is as beautiful as roses in spring. People who know that a little kick can change everything and, they accept it like that and move on.

How can you brace yourself for life’s plot twist or handle it when it comes.

    1. By letting it sink that life is a fusion of small wins, big losses, big wins and small losses
    2. By accepting that expecting perfection is deadly and unrealistic.
    3. When that plan doesn’t go well, there is always another plan that would work. When that person doesn’t end up been in a position to help you, there is always another person who may come up. When you end up not meeting that deadline, there is always another one to be met.
    4. When one thing doesn’t give you the satisfaction you desire, something else will, only if you keep moving.

Just like you met new pot holes on your way to work today that wasn’t there yesterday, yet you still reached your destination, so also that plot twist may surprise you but it would not predict your result as long as you choose not to let it.

As you expect perfection, also give room for twists alongside so you don’t end up crying forever.

How could you expect that because Jon was the bastard son and has the blood of the targarian that he would be the king. And think that they would give you that. No. That’s something we’ve known since. Its too predictable. Too simple. Jon was too soft to rule the seven kingdoms

    They gave us something bigger.

The greatest power came back to the Stark family.

All the kingdoms had a stark in power. That is more than enough.

Life is unpredictable and full of twists. Adjust as you go and move fast.

  • Tough times never last but tough people do

Five years ago I was cleaning the shelf in the lobby where daddy kept all his stuffs; from books to documents, CDs, files etc. When I found a book I was seeing for the first time, it was strange because I had read every book in the house except, of course, this one.

The minute I touched it and read the name “Tough times never last but tough people do.” A tear fell down from my eyes.

It was like a word from heaven. In fact it was a gift from God because it was exactly 8 months after daddy’s death and two others as well. My life was a total mess and it was like a candy to me to bring back my smile and will to truly live.

But it was was more too…

I went further to open the book

And the next page…the next page broke me…it broke me completely.

My name “EBUBECHUKWU CHIKA JONAH” was boldly written on it in daddy’s beautiful handwriting I loved so much.

Seeing it brought me to tears

Because i just realized he had bought the book for me.

He bought it for me guys…

He bought that book as a gift for me.

But I never received it…I never got it…I never knew. I fell down and cried uncontrollably.

Maybe…maybe he didn’t have a chance to give it to me or maybe he forgot.

But one thing was for sure. Finding that book at that time was not a coincidence. It was God directing me to the final gift from my dad that would change my life and stop me from destroying myself from grief.

It was Daddy telling me “Ebubechukwu, its time you rise above this. You are a tough girl and no tough situation should ruin your life.”

And I embraced this book like life itself. I read each page in tears, in brokenness, in pain and in denial and as I flipped through each page, my crumbled faith began to rebuild, my mood began changing, my declarations changed for the better and finally I rose with the understanding that only tough people last regardless of the worst and evil challenge ever experienced. Only tough people survive.

I can’t enjoy this gift alone. I don’t think I can give this copy book to anyone since its my Dads final gift to me. But I can give you this book in digital. I purchased an E-copy years back and I want to share it with you.

With all my blessings prayers and Gods power. It would help heal you and motivate you to rise in life.

I have no doubt that it will.

    Just read it.
