  • MOVIE NIGHT

He walked slowly towards her and grinned. He had her now since they were the only two people inside the elevator. He walked slowly towards her and at the same time she took a step back, fear written all over her. He swiftly pushed her to a corner and tried clasping her hands together but she was smart, she gave him a hard kick that sent him flying back, she immediately brought out her phone to call the police but he dragged it from her and smashed it on the ground, dipped his hand into his side pocket and brought out a nail cutter, held her hand upward and tried using it on her but instead she bit his arms and he wined in pain. Why won’t this girl just let him do what he came for? And why did she have to make it difficult? He muttered to himself, but he knew why. No girl would see a total stranger in a mask attack her and won’t fight back. So what was he to do now? A thought came to his mind. He let go of her and she tried stopping the elevator but all to no avail. He swiftly turned her back to him, removed her hood and threw it on the ground, then dug his fingers into her hair and pulled; this time she gave an ear breaking scream that almost brought her to tears and he was sorry but he had no time to worry about her so he brought his hand to his face and found strands of her black hair stuck on his finger. He smiled mischievously and brought out a tiny plastic bag from his back pocket, put the hair inside it, zipped it and put it right back into his pocket. He pushed her to the wall and the elevator opened immediately and he walked out, then stopped dead on this track as if forgetting something, he brought out a live of paper, scribbled something on it, threw it at her and left.

She stood up after much effort, took the paper he threw at her and opened it. What she saw shocked her “I’m sorry”

‘Who was this man?’ She asked silently in utter amazement. She didn’t think he wanted to hurt her, and he didn’t steal from her. He only tried cutting her nails and when he didn’t succeed he tried her hair and succeed. What he wanted or his motive behind it remained a mystery to her.

When he reached the roof, he held the rope and jumped all the way down. A car drove in front of him and he got in the front sit

“This is it. I only got her hair, that should be more than enough”. He handed the plastic bag to the man at the back seat.

“Good job. What is left is the DNA test”

“That has nothing to do with me. I hope i never see you again. This mission is over” he opened the door and stepped out. And the car drove off.

    Then Silence…

‘Shit!’ I said out loud. Really? Why did this have to stop now. Oh i know, i stood up and went to the drawer, opened it and searched to find it but there was none. ‘What the hell! I kept pacing and was so exasperated. I glanced at the clock and it was ten forty five pm and that was so late which was no consolation at all. After a minute of pacing back and front in anger i couldn’t handle it any longer. I went into the living room quietly and grabbed the gate key, wore a jacket over my cami, opened the door and left.

Opening the gate was the problem. What if i get caught? What would i say? That i was going to buy the completion of a movie i thought i had but didn’t at almost midnight. What normal person would accept that. I had no gut to lie and no strength to crack my brains for an excuse to give. I held the padlock tightly and swiped the key slowly to avoid making a noise that would wake mum and unlocked the gate. Then i slowly removed the bolt, walked out and jammed the gate calmly. I ran to the junction, boarded a taxi, dropped off, walked to the store, made my purchase and went back home.
I was on the couch with a handful of peanuts, a cold drink beside me and a forty two inches before me in twenty five minutes. I sighed in relief and tried catching my breath and when i relaxed, i sat comfortably, opened my drink, threw the peanut into my mouth and hit the play button.

If you think this is crazy then you’re yet to see more adventure people have taken just to watch a movie.
At that moment i knew the risk of walking out alone at that tome of the night but i choose to take the risk. why? The answer to that is no fun in watching a movie without knowing the ending or watching an incomplete movie. Its different if its a TV series at least i know it would be shown in episodes till the ending. So its either a complete film or TV series but never an incomplete film
The moment i hit the play button and begin watching, getting the drama, the emotions, the visuals, and the story out of my head becomes very difficult. Worst of all, not getting a closure drives me crazy.

Most times we get so busy with the hustle that we forget to give ourselves a Friday or Saturday night break to watch a movie. Forget the worries of the day and the fear of tomorrow and sit on the couch with a bag of popcorn and watch a movie. Its okay to have a bad day but remember to create the good days. The memory of each day would always be pleasing.

PS – the movie that made me go out late at night was ‘K2’ a Ji Chang wook series. Don’t be shocked. Yeah! I’m a Korean movie fan.

Also there are two movies that have made me cry ‘The fault in our stars’ a Shainelene Woodly film and ‘Kaho na ho’ an Indian film by Sharuh khan.

So tell me, what’s that movie that made you shed a lot of tears. Share them with me by leaving a comment. Like, share and follow. God bless.

  • THE BEAT

It was raining heavily that Sunday morning and he was rushing to meet church service. He quickly dressed up and when he went out the rain became worse, almost unstoppable. He went back inside grabbed his raincoat, wore it, took his phone and wallet and closed the door behind him.
He stood on the side of the road for what felt like an eternity, yet there was no sign of a taxi coming. He stepped into the road and started walking under the rain. He had no choice, he felt every drop of the rain clap his body. He was walking to church weather he liked it or not. Then a thought came to his mind; it was what he loved doing but missed doing. He immediately took out his earphone plugged it into his phone and put in his both ears and hit the play button.
As he walked on he was nodding his head in rhythm to the song playing in his head and he couldn’t stop smiling. The beat dope, the lyrics amazing, the sound soothing and almost immediately he joined in the singing and he sang on and on. it was pure heaven feeling the cool breeze embrace him, the wet drops of the rain on his body, the precious rhythm of the song flowing through his soul and mind and him singing the song out loud for the world to hear without minding the long distance or if he may catch a cold. Nothing mattered except that moment.

He kept singing unaware of the fact that it was not raining so hard anymore. It was just little drops. People began coming out of their shelter and shades and cars started to fill the road again. As people passed him they looked at him, smiled and went on. Some laughed at the mere sight of him and others laughed at his singing and he just laughed back at them, nodded and went on. Those he knew waved and passed. It was all so refreshing. He couldn’t stop himself. He was close to the church so he stopped singing but kept humming to himself. As soon as he reached he stopped the song, removed the earphones, removed his rain coat, dried himself and went in.

It was lunch time at home, service was over and everyone couldn’t wait to refill their stomach. The boys were noisy with their cutleries and mum was serving lunch. He couldn’t stop singing that song, even after church he continued it at home. The children stared at him and was smiling and wondering why daddy was so happy singing with his crooked voice. Then suddenly they started laughing. He stared at his sons and smiled, maybe they were laughing at something between them so he turned back and continued singing “…abu-de-na-me-yang, my trust is in you…” Nodding his head and smiling “…my trust is in you, abu-de-na-me-yang…” He went on and on. Then he heard them laughing again, he turned and this time their mom was with them laughing so hard. He couldn’t figure out what was funny so he smiled and looked at them questionly ” What is it boys?” He asked waiting for an answer instead he got another roar of laughter. This time he also started laughing wondering why they were laughing so hard
“Daddy its not …abu-de-na-me-yang, my trust is in you; …its …i put them all in you, my trust is in you…” His first son replied still giggling.
“Really, Jesus!” He exclaimed in shock. “You mean all this time I’ve been singing it wrong and you’ll have been making fun of me? Huh”. He continued with his hands on his head in shock.
    “Yeah” they nodded
“Alright. Noted. Can we eat now? Please?” He laughed and they all nodded and digged in.

Even as he was eating he couldn’t stop thinking that all this while he had been singing it all wrong, no wonder some people were laughing at him on the road when they heard him. Oh God! What embarrassment! But who cared. He was enjoying himself. He was lost in his own world. Who cares weather he knew the lyrics of the song or not. He was just pouring out his emotions through the music. He was simply having fun singing and listening to the sound of music. He smiled and continued eating.

I’m sure you’re laughing at this too but that’s what music does. The beats, the voice, the sound, the melody. It fills the soul and every time you just want to pour it out and express yourself in the heat of the moment. Sometimes i pick a rap song among my playlist and join in the rapping. Weather i get it right or not doesn’t matter. What matters is that I’m enjoying myself and having fun.

Let me share this with you

  • CARDS

    WHOT playing card

Who plays card at work? Hell yeah i do! Its crazy but i do. I’m supposed to be working or if not I’m supposed to feign busy just for the sake of it. But sometimes i can’t. Sometimes i really cant focus on one thing so i multitask. In fact i love multitasking. Its not every time i want to spend my spare time reading a book. No! I love keeping my eye, ears, hands and mind busy. And card is one way.
When the card is shared your hands become busy with the stack of cards, your eyes are busy watching every move by your opponent, your ears are busy waiting to hear a hint, a lick of information on their side that may guarantee your win and then your mind is busy meticulously calculating every card played by your playmate that may be in your favor and guys just thinking and writing about it gets me excited.

    Standard 52 deck card

There is the Standard 52 deck card i like a lot. Its a playing card that has 4 suits; 13 of each is the club, diamond, hearts and spades. I play a little of it but I’m not strong so i loose almost every time i play it. And then there is the ‘WHOT’ playing card, wildly played in Africa especially Nigeria. Its a non-standard card of five suits: circles, crosses, triangles, stars and squares. Its a multiplayer card game. And its strong suits are 20, 14, 8, 2 and 1. 20 can get you anything, 14 means general market, 8 means suspension for the next player, 2 means pick two for the next player and 1 means hold on for the next player. Its a wild fun game especially playing it outside at night with the cool breeze and the soft noise of the birds on the tree.

So Imagine opening your deck of cards and you see this.

You feel like you’ve been given a gold mine. You smile openly or you try to hide your smile so your playmate doesn’t get an idea of what you’ve got in your hand. This time you’re sure winning is a must. It relieves you of the tension and then you relax and wait for your move. Suddenly, your playmate gives you a WHOT pick two, and you feel like screaming. Like a bolt of lightening the tension is back, the fear of losing returns, and the game gets hotter. You become aware that its time for the mind and calculating game because now you’ve lost your chance of winning and its time to create that chance again. This time there are no smiles, no jokes only the flipping, throwing and shuffling of cards. And the fact is, the one who wins either wins by luck or by skill. Its either one of the two.

Life is like a table of cards. One minute you’re happy, all smiling, traveling, meeting friends, dating and partying. And the next thing like a bolt of lightening, the challenges, the problems, the loss, the negativity comes without invitation, without knocking on the door, they just come in and find a hard time leaving. Suddenly all you can think of is solving the problem. You forget the partying and the playing. And all your attention become focused on removing the negativity, getting rid of the situation and overcoming the challenges.

So guys lets play to win! To overcome!

Do you love card? What is your best playing card?
